Christian reporter fired for church protest

I have read today an article on Google news about a Chinese reporter that had recently been baptised, that he got fired because of his religious beliefs and behaviors, they say that he "spreads rumors harmful to society". It is interesting that at this point in time, in 2006 we still have to fear for some of our most sacred parts of our lives.
It seems to me, reading the article that finding God was for the chinese reporter the most important thing in his life, he was ready to suffer the social consequences, and so he did.

But I still keep my sad belief that we don’t have to suffer for what we believe, they say that we have the right to say what we thing, but it seems that not all of us, and not everywhere.
This makes me think that we live in separate worlds sometimes, despite the technological breakthrought and the communication era. We are still way behind our times.
