Choosing a domain for a church website

Because lately I had this discussion with a lot of people, I will try to put here a few tips about how to choose the domain name for a church website or for any religious websites. It is not such a big deal, just that you should check a few points when buying the domain name for a Christian website.
| If you start building a church website, your most obvious choice for a domain would be the name of the church followed by "church" word. Pretty obvious and works well most of the times.
For example, Saddleback church for example which uses the domain www.SaddlebackChurch.com which describes perfectly the site behind it. However, Saddleback church also uses the domain www.Saddleback.com as an alternate, even if it does not describe the domain perfectly.

Because most of the times the name will be formed of at least 2 words, plus the word church, the name will not be short, thus people will think of a way to distinguish the words with a minus sign between words. Well, let me tell you, this is not a good solution. Let's say you build a website for Blue Lake Church so you think of a domain name www.Blue-Lake-Church.com (I didn't try to see if it exists, really!). This way, the words are distinguished and there is easy to remember, right? OK, now please go on and make a radio commercial for it. How will you say it? www dot Blue, minus, Lake, minus, church dot com, well, not quite the best way to do it in my opinion.
I will tell you a small thing that happened to me. I spent a weekend with my friends in the mountains, at a chalet. When I left the location, I asked the lady of the house if they have a website. Yes, they had. And they told me the address: something like Mountain Spell Dot RO. Well, first thing the next morning I went to see the website and I was surprised to see that it didn't look anything like what I have seen one day ago. Thinking a bit, I added a - between words. Well, what do you know?! That was it! That was the website!
So, what that lady did was to send a returning visitor to her direct competitor which was in the same area and targeted the same visitors. Think about it for a bit when you building a church website and you need to choose the domain name for it.
